Dancers + Garbage

We’re jumping into the winter. For me that means a few months off from shooting weddings, but I definitely haven’t put my camera down! I want to keep you guys posted on what I’m up to in the meantime.

This Friday I’m showing pictures for a benefit and party to support my dear friend Robin Cantrell and her dance company. They’re putting on a show here in Brooklyn at the beginning of the year, and she asked me to do a photoshoot with her as a fundraiser to pay the dancers and msucians.

I had recently come across an old Paris Review with a bunch of Robert Mapplethorpe diptychs of portraits of people and flowers. That got me thinking that it would be fun to collaborate with the dancers and ask them to interpret different inanimate objects. Initially, Robin and I were playing with the idea, and we thought it would be fun to find a whole bunch of branches that they could imitate. But while I was wandering around McCaren park, I found some other things that I thought would be a fun challenge for the dancers to interpret.

To make a long story short, the result was “Dancers + Garbage”. Here’s a copy of the flier and a few sample images. If anyone’s free on Friday, I’d love to see you there!

To put it simply, I believe that the day of a wedding is full of great emotion and energy, and my aim is to capture it. I pride myself on my ability to blend in and capture images that tell the story of your day in a unique yet timeless way. I'm based in New York City, and while many of the weddings that I shoot are nearby, I frequently shoot weddings across the US and around the world.
