Bridgewaters

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Bridgewaters is a great venue in downtown Manhattan at the South Street Seaport. I love shooting on the cobblestone streets around the area, and once you’re up in the space, there are some great views of Brooklyn over the East River, and the Brooklyn Bridge.

The space is definitely among the bigger ones that I’ve seen in New York. They have a capacity for up to 2,500 guests (wow!). But because of the way the space is broken up, you don’t have to have 2,500 people to make it work. The wedding I’ve shot there have been in the range of 200-300 guests, and I think one of the things that the space is really conducive to is having different parts of the day occur in different sections of the space. The space is run by a really professional crew, headed by Cheryl, who I’ve always had good experiences with.

Here are some shots to give a feel for the raw space.

There’s a cool tri-level thing going on in this room. I’ve seen it put to good use for a cocktail hour. That’s the bar in the right corner of the picture.

They’ve got a really sweet balcony.

There’s plenty of room for dancing at Bridgewaters. This one is from Josh and EB’s wedding.

EB and Josh at Bridgewaters

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Alright, this is going to be a sort of mega-post.. Be warned. EB and Josh had such an awesome wedding, and then on top of that, I brought along the studio lights and did some portraits during the reception and there are SO many pictures from there that I’m in love with.

Anyways, I’ll just jump right into it. I started out with EB at the Standard. The windows in her room were floor to ceiling and wrap around, so the light was gorgeous.

Joao, in the meantime caught up with Josh while he was heading over to the High Line.

We met up on the High Line. EB used to work for Friends of the High Line, so they lined things up to do the ketubah signing there, which was an amazing hookup.Bridgewaters-7.jpg  Bridgewaters-9.jpg Bridgewaters-8.jpg Bridgewaters-10.jpg

Then we headed over to Bridgewaters, where EBs grandma was waiting. We arrive at Bridgewaters and see EBs grandma.Bridgewaters-12.jpg  Bridgewaters-13.jpg EB and Josh's ceremony at Bridgewaters. Mid-reception, Josh and his guys did an amazing acapella piece.Bridgewaters-27.jpg Bridgewaters-28.jpgBridgewaters-29.jpg

And then, EB, Josh and a whole crew of their friends busted out this INCREDIBLE choreographed dance piece. My jaw dropped.Bridgewaters-30.jpg Bridgewaters-31.jpg Bridgewaters-32.jpg

Throughout the reception, Joao and I were doing tag team shooting portraits. I haven’t done this since Allyson and Dan’s wedding last year, and I was so stoked that EB and Josh mentioned doing this. One thing that I think is so great about doing this is that it’s a chance for everyone who wants it to make sure that they get an awesome photo of themselves at the wedding. Yes, there’s a story behind this photo. Juan + Naomi

Juan and Naomi had a great event at Bridgewaters. I met up with Naomi while she was getting ready at the Millenium Hilton downtown. She was transcribing her vows from the scraps of paper she had written them on.

Laura Nadeau of Bubble & Lo did makeup for the girls. I’ve worked with her several times now, and I’m always impressed with her work. Naomi never wears makeup so Juan wanted to make sure that I got pictures of the whole process. Here, Laura and Naomi check it out in the mirror.
