I’m back to New York after a great little winter trip over to Europe. My little brother has been studying at the University of Padova in Italy, so when it came time to make plans for the holidays this year, I strongly encouraged him to not come home… which gave the family an excuse to converge on his University town for the holiday celebrations this year.

I decided to fly out little early, and Luke suggested that we take advantage of the extra time to take a little side trip somewhere that Ryan Air flies (that’s Europe’s ridiculously low priced airline). A few days after Skypeing him, he sent me back ticket options for Marrakech, Fez and the Canary Islands. We picked the Canary Islands.

While I did schlep in some of my usual camera gear, it pretty much stayed in my camera bag the entire time while I snapped everything with my phone and the pretty-much-everyones-got-it-by-now Hipstamatic App. It was an awesome change of pace to put the big cameras down for awhile and to just be able to take a snap or two whenever the mood struck.

After the Canary Islands, we headed back up to Italy to meet our parents. Hooked up with some of my little brothers friends for an amazing New Years feast in Venice (we hauled in 20 bottles of wine for a 10 person meal), followed by fireworks in San Marco plaza.

And then finally we headed up to Cortina for a few days snowboarding in the alps. The best thing about snowboarding in Europe is that somehow it seems like the European skiiers avoid the powder, which means that there was plenty of it for us, even about a week and a half after the most recent snow.

Back in New York, I’m ready to pick up the big cameras again. Things get rolling for me early this year, with my next wedding in just a couple weeks.

Hey guys, still here in the Canary Islands. The sun finally came out today and we went out for some sport climbing. The guy at the surf shop says the swell is gonig to be good tomorrow. And right now I’m sitting at a sort of hybrid internet cafe/casino where my little brother is playing mechanized roulette. Long story short, life is good.

My friend Spencer just shot me an e-mail about a post he just did about me on Stale Bread. So stoked to see it, and love the picture he snapped of me. Thanks alot Spencer!

Bella and Matt really had a chance meeting. They both went to Israel with the Birthright program. On the flight over, everyone was seated alphabetically according to their last name. That put them right next to each other, and so the two strangers ended up getting to know each other on the trans-atlantic flight.

I was excited to be shooting their wedding at a classic New York spot: Twenty Four Fifth.

They were absolute troopers through the torrential downpour that we experienced during most of the day. At first it seemed like it was going to be a bummer, since we had scouted out a bunch of awesome locations around Greenwich Village. But in the end, it was great for the pictures, because we were able to basically take over the bar at the hotel and have a lot of fun shooting there.

Matt and Bella’s style really complemented the whole atmosphere. Matt rocked tails and a white bow-tie, and Bella had a dress made of feathers.

Dress: David Tutera by Faviana from Bridal Reflections
Flowers: Maria Nino at Pristine Events
Headpiece: Boutique de Voile fromBridal Reflections
Cocktail music: Stephane Wrembel Trio
Location: Twenty Four Fifth
